I’m walking (and biking) from Rancho Cordova, CA to Oregon to generate awareness of the growing problem of childhood obesity. It’s nearly 500 miles through mountainous terrain, coastal weather, and rainy/snowy conditions. I’m keeping a blog at 20milesaday.com to document my trip, but I wanted to see if anyone had any tips that would help me prepare. I’m planning on a 5 week trip, 5 to 10 hours a day. I’ll have a support vehicle, but only at the end of my daily destinations. What supplies should I bring with me? Are there any mapping resources available? Has anyone done this before?
dump ATT !! phone service/8.95$ month better than Magic! & keep your old phone number..8.95$/ month

For starters, you ought to check prevailing wind directions for the coast that time of year. I’m pretty sure it’s north to south, and can get real strong. Might be best to start in Oregon.
As you’ll have a support vehicle, really not a lot to worry about. A good back pack for water and high calorie food, rain gear. Pair of good hiking shoes. High visibility vest?? Maybe a walking stick.
